Candle Making

Candle making is lots of fun. These scented soy candles turned out beautifully. Although I love the color, getting a rich deep color is sometimes difficult. I have made many a pastel candle, because the wax always looks darker when it is melted-especially with soy wax.

Here comes the Sun

Today is a rainy snuggle-on-the-couch kind of day here in Oregon. I just felt like spreading a sunshine, so here is a picture of an oil painting I did several years ago. May your day be sunny and bright.

Friendly Canvas II

Another view of of my favorite friendly canvas. I was so lucky early on in my learning mehndi, to have friends who would let me draw all over them.

Henna on Canvas

Henna piped out directly onto canvas. I am finding that doing mehndi on a flat surface is more challenging than on the human body. Because of the natural curves of the hands or feet, the flow of the design work is different than looking at it straight on. This kind of practice is definitely making me better.

Been working a lot lately on all sorts of things for Gypsy Gnome. Getting ready for festival season, and making art, making art and making art. Happy Sunday everyone

Mehndi Lamp

I am really excited about piping acrylic paint on all sorts of things these days. Here is a lamp I thrifted and then decorated with my original mehndi design. The periwinkle and white paint really pop on the mint ceramic lamp.

I found that acrylic paint just out of the tube is to runny to hold a detailed design, so I added a little acrylic medium and the mehndi holds up much better. Looking forward to doing some more lamps soon.

DIY: Cabinet Makeover

I love this project, and think the final product is fabulous. A simple DIY taking an old filing cabinet from a thrift store and turning it into a functional design piece.

The contrast of the bold pattern and the subtlety of the lilac paint turned out beautifully.I learned a lot doing this project, and am definitely going to do it again in the future.

Friendly Canvas

Before I started doing henna, a few brave friends let me tag them with Sharpies.
Have a happy Monday.

Flowers in the Wind

Check out my origami flower project. Although I have made cranes in the past this was my first time tackling flowers. The floding was smooth and easy, but hanging my first mobile took much more time than I planed. In the end I am super happy with the result.
